Back in the 1950s, when I was a boy, the station attendants who serviced my father's car always checked the fluid levels. Today, with self-service fuel pumps, fluid levels are often neglected. Sometimes the result of this neglect is a breakdown; sometimes serious damage requiring costly repairs. My father was grateful to the attendants who serviced his car. He didn't know much about cars and took their advice seriously.
Today's drivers don't have a friendly gas station attendant to watch out for them, so they have to rely on us: automotive service professionals. Offering to perform needed services does not drive business away. Offering to perform needed services and then backing the offer with the know-how and equipment necessary to perform the services professionally generates repeat business and customer loyalty.
