Installing a green roofing system with high solar reflectivity (SR) and infrared emittance (IE) can be one of the most effective ways to increase a building's energy efficiency. If you're looking for a cool roof, in addition to our ENERGY STAR qualification, the Cool Roof Rating Council rates FiberTite roofing membranes at 83 SR and 85 IE, one of the highest scores in the industry.
These green properties can deliver significant energy savings - in the U.S., the annual cost reduction is typically between 7 and 20 cents per square foot, according to an energy saving model developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
In addition to solar reflectivity and infrared emittance, other variables in the DOE model include R-value, summertime cost of electricity, air conditioner efficiency, natural gas cost, heating system efficiency and electricity demand charged during cooling season. The model will calculate the approximate energy savings for 235 U.S. cities.
