THE VINEYARDS
Eighty-five percent of our 2011 Sauvignon Blanc was grown in the Russian River Valley. These core estate vineyards include: Slusser, Crinella, Mirabel, and Silk. The balance of the fruit was grown in Lake and Mendocino counties.
VINTAGE NOTESThe 2011 growing season proved to be very cool, and similar to 2010 with three notable exceptions. Rain at the end of June decimated our bloom and resulted in a region wide decrease in fruit set and ultimately in quantity. Many vineyards produced only 60% of normal tonnage. Second, we had no heat spikes in 2011. The very temperate summer provided great flavor development and retention of acidity. Finally, two rains drenched the region in early October. Luckily the Sauvignon Blanc was almost all in the winery, albeit just barely! Our 370 tons of Sauvignon Blanc were harvested from September 23, to October 11, 2011 at an average 21.2° Brix.
